We are working in the traditional village of Santrokofi to provide an orphanage home for the most vulnerable of the children.
Santrokofi is composed of three villages, located 2.5 miles outside of Hohoe and approximately 4 hours drive from Accra. Over 80 children in the village are registered with our partner charity, the Living Faith Foundation, and local social welfare officers as needy. The chiefs have told us that the extended family system is not working - families are struggling to support their own children, let alone others. We have the full support of the chiefs, locals and social welfare in this project.
The home will house roughly 50 children, providing them with clothes, food and access to education. It is also planned that it will be a place of support for single mothers and other struggling families.
Current Progress:

**The roof is currenty being built and should be finished by Christmas, photos to follow **
The home is being built by HOTI engineering, a local Ghanaian engineering company, using local labour where possible. We build as and when we have the funds available.
The home will have a girls and boys wing, each with one large dormitory and a smaller bedroom for younger children. Each has a study and play area. Seperating these wings are the staff quarters, kitchen and dining areas. The home sits on 5 large plots of land, some of which will be a recreation area for the children, the rest used for farming. The home is a 2 minute walk from the local school.
The graph below shows the total project costs and how much we have already raised:

We have a number of fundraising events lined up in order to get the roof on as soon as possible. We also hope to reduce costs where possible, for example within the decorating stage, by using volunteer workers.
Please help us get this home finished as soon as possible so that we can start making a real difference to these children. Donate to the santrokofi project by clicking below:
